Wii Would Like To Play

I’ve throughly enjoyed my Wii since I was lucky enough to get one last Sunday. It’s fantastic, fun and lots of other adjectives. We’ve had fun playing Wii Sports and Wario Ware: Smooth Moves.

Yesterday, Nintendo released the News Channel for Wii. Basically, it’s a portal on the Wii that is delivered AP news stories. I’d like to see it be more configurable in the future. Kinda like an RSS reader. Right now, you cannot choose the news you’d like delivered to you.

The Internet Channel is also very nice. From now until June, you will be able to download the Wii Opera based browser from the Wii Shopping Channel. After June, it will cost 500 Wii points ($5). It’s currently in a beta version, but the final release is expected out sometime next month.

The Wii also adds on a Weather Channel. It serves you up recent temperature and weather stats. It has a cool globe feature that lets you see places from all over the world. It’s a nice feature, but it probably won’t become your primary source of weather updates.

All in all, we’re really enjoying Wii at my house. If you weren’t able to snag one yet, I heard that Wal-Mart may put some out on their shelves this Sunday. My brother told me that they were going to run a circular offering the Wiis in store on 28 January. I’m assuming this is similar to the ones that Circuit City and Best Buy ran last Sunday.

Wiimotes and Wii Points cards seem to still be very scarce. My mother’s going to pick one up for me soon (they have them at their local Wal-Mart, we don’t). You can still have hours of fun with one wiimote, you just have to swap during multiplayer mode.

Once you get your Wii, be sure to go to http://www.nintendo.com and register it. You get an extra 90 days added onto your warranty for doing that. Also, be sure to check out the Nintendo Nsider forums as well. They’re located here: http://forums.nintendo.com

I’ll put more interesting Wii stuff up here soon.
